GENERAL MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAM
Mental Health Track

The Mental Health track provides a safe, secure, educational, and accepting environment for individuals to explore thoughts and feelings, learn various coping strategies, and process experienced events/interactions and skills learning in our program. Our clinicians assist our clients in processing and learning to cope with a variety of mood disorder symptoms, difficult life transitions, grief and loss, and setting new thought and response patterns that enhance healing, self-acceptance and resilience. The Mental Health track engages an eclectic approach in partial and intensive outpatient levels of care for treatment including client-based, behavior based, strengths-focused, and experiential-based methods of treatment, while the program as a whole recognizes the client as the leading authority in the management of all respective life roles. Clients are learning communication and anger management, and improving self-esteem/self-reliance, relaxation, relationship dynamics, depression management, and CBT skills in this track.
Anxiety/Trauma Track - This service is not offered at the Livingston Location.

Managing trauma issues, attachment issues, and triggers resulting from complex and single trauma events is a great challenge, often not understood. Anxiety and trauma management strategies and tips are available for us to use to protect our self, or “our system’s” integrity, and the quality of our lives. There is little we can or could have done to prevent certain things from happening or to prevent certain outcomes, but how we manage what we are faced with – that becomes our responsibility.

The Anxiety Disorders/Trauma track is designed to educate clients on managing safety, trauma, and anxiety symptoms, to improve social and self-interactions, balance, presence, and control in their daily lives, as well as to manage perfectionism and trauma narrative issues (resulting from attachment and complex, PTSD, single, and multiple traumas). Mindfulness, motivational, educational, CBT and DBT approaches are engaged in the treatment of clients in this track. The track is designed for clients to be assisted with treatment in process and psycho-education groups, and with treatment in weekly individual sessions as well as in family sessions (optional) for further exploration and management of symptoms; in all tracks clients are provided with mood/medication counseling and management. The Anxiety/Trauma track has the differentiation component which enables those suffering from anxiety symptoms outside of trauma symptoms to be able to focus on that alone, while trauma survivors are treated in trauma education specific groups within the same track.

Those seeking to address trauma symptoms in our program should know that our approach to trauma management is not geared towards opening the traumatic events and doing full-exposure work, but in understanding symptoms and the impact of trauma on one’s daily life, family role, work role, and personal and social interactions. The understanding of symptoms and their impact on a client’s daily life is further pursued at GenPsych with the integration of personal strengths and cognitive modifications. Clients are assisted in observing, understanding, and improving the internal relationship as they are pursuing recovery, healing, and integration of the reframed trauma narrative into the personal journey.
DBT Track

The General Mental Health program at GenPsych, PC is offering an adult Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) track geared towards the learning of skills for a variety of clients/needs including:

-
clients struggling with management of personality/interpersonal issues.
-
trauma survivors who are in an immediate need to learn coping strategies to manage symptoms/triggers.
-
clients suffering from triggers to lethality symptoms and self-harm behaviors and urges.
-
clients who have a primary mental health diagnosis and also struggle with the management of various addictions/urges/intense tendencies.
-
clients who are going through life transitions and find themselves unable to apply strategies already learned/built prior to treatment in our program.
-
clients who are struggling with daily function and daily life stressors and find themselves at loss with how to cope with a variety of life challenges.

In the DBT track, our staff helps set and maintain a supportive environment for therapeutic work, for motivation for skills use, and for support towards clients trying new strategies and being open to the DBT skills presented in sessions. Clients are provided with homework/handouts that help to establish new/healthy patterns/behaviors and have the opportunity to review them. Clients are helped to maintain a diary card that monitors daily emotions and progress on behaviors that the client (with staff assistance) has identified as needing to decrease and increase in the recovery process. Clients learn Mindfulness, Emotion Regulation, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Distress Tolerance, and Middle Path skills in this track. DBT clients are also offered phone coaching services to assist them with using the skills that they learn in groups outside of program.
Eating Disorder Track

The eating disorder track provides patients with ongoing support following intensive outpatient treatment. It can help those who are struggling in traditional outpatient settings who need extra support. This track can help with managing relapse prevention and all of life’s stressors. Ongoing symptoms of Eating Disorders can be treated and supported by a combination of attending a weekly group therapy session, individual therapy and consultation with a registered dietician. Ongoing meal support will assist in preventing relapse of eating disorder behaviors and maintaining a healthy relationship with food.
WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY
“I’ve been to other treatment facilities in NJ and have been in and out of hospitals. This was the first time I actually felt heard and respected.”
“It was a comfortable atmosphere, the docs were good and the food was pretty great too. They order from a local pizza place.”
“The people there were cool. You have to turn in your phone during group but I got used to it. I was suicidal before but now I’m not. I’d go back if I had to.”
“Finally, I have therapists that actually listen to me. I would recommend GenPsych to anyone who has tried other facilities and haven’t gotten results.”
“There were ups and downs and sometimes I wasn’t the easiest person to deal with, but they were patient with me and explained the process all the way through. The groups were awesome too!”
