ADULT SUBSTANCE ABUSE OUTPATIENT PROGRAMS
Your comfort, well being, and recovery are our top priority at GenPsych. Our experienced and highly credentialed clinical team prides itself on providing discrete, high-quality care in a relaxed, welcoming, and empowering environment.
Alcohol and drugs take a hard toll on the body, mind, and lives of users – and their loved ones. So, too, can mental health disorders. Our Dual Diagnosis/Substance Abuse Programs simultaneously address challenges derived from chemical dependence and those associated with mental health disorders.
Many who struggle with addictions and mental health woes feel powerless and trapped, with little hope of regaining control. However, our clients possess reservoirs of strength and resilience that they often do not know exist. These keys to sustained recovery and mental health quality are emphasized in our Substance Abuse Program. We use proven, evidence-based treatment methods to break the chains of addiction – and to reclaim one’s life and help them to remain substance free.
At GenPsych, we also specialize in the treatment of opiate addiction. We are a licensed Suboxone provider and offer medically assisted detoxification to adults in our program.
OUR PROGRAM
The Dual Diagnosis/Substance Abuse Programs are founded upon effective, discrete, and research-based approaches designed to empower addicts struggling with mental health woes. GenPsych’s accomplished, licensed clinical team encourages addicts to learn and employ the tools needed for sustained recovery and overall well being. Our integrated treatment approaches assist adults in gaining social support, learning new coping skills, developing healthy relationships, and discovering the freedom of living without substances.
Before entering our program, you will be given a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation to determine the appropriate treatment for your clinical needs. For your convenience and to best accommodate your family, work, and life demands, we offer two different program tracks:
-
AM Intensive Outpatient Program is a 3 hour, 3 days a week program offered Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Clients are encouraged to choose which three nonconsecutive days they wish to attend.
-
PM Intensive Outpatient Program is a 3 hour, 3 days a week treatment, available on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
For those clients whose clinical care requires more services, we offer a partial care program each weekday from the hours of 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Transportation is available to qualified program attendees.
These locations offer substance abuse programs: Brick, Bridgewater, and Livingston
OUR SERVICES
The Dual Diagnosis/Substance Abuse Programs are founded upon the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) “Eight Dimensions of Wellness”: Emotional, Environmental, Intellectual, Physical, Occupational, Spiritual, Financial, and Social. We also view clients holistically and with the educated lens that considers – and addresses – a myriad of factors leading to addiction and mental health woes, including peer pressure, genetics, trauma and abuse, poor social skills, and unstable family environments.
Our clients enjoy a diverse array of therapy groups that range from traditional (e.g. Recovery Skills) to academic (e.g. Biology of Addictions) to creative (Music Therapy). We offer weekly individual sessions with therapists and with medication providers to best ensure specialized, holistic treatment of each individual. Family sessions with loved ones are also provided as needed.
In order to best ensure a healthy, productive, therapeutic environment, our facilities possess an onsite lab that drug screens clients a minimum of two times per week. We also employ mental health, substance abuse, and non-chemical addiction instruments to objectively track each client’s progress – and to better identify their clinical needs.
Elevating the likelihood for our clients’ continued health and sustained recovery is our highest priority. As such, we encourage the use of mutual support group programs throughout treatment. Clients are educated on the characteristics and locations of various support systems, such as 12 Step Model, SMART Recovery, and Double Trouble in Recovery.
In short, we aspire to educate our clients about the conditions that have afflicted them, as well as the evidence-based methods to overcome addiction and mental health challenges.
Our goal is for every client to gain an understanding of addiction and recovery. Some educational topics covered are:
How alcohol and drugs affect the brain
Relaxation and Meditation
Dialectic Behavior Therapy (DBT) Skills
for Recovery
Pharmacology
Coping Skills
Codependency
Dual Diagnosis
Relapse Prevention
Emotion Regulation
Family Roles
Dealing with Pain

Participants will also learn about joining local recovery support groups and developing a successful support plan. When you complete the program, we give you the psychiatric and outpatient referrals you need to ensure your continued care.
OUR APPROACH
GenPsych, P.C. has developed a unique, educated, and holistic approach to treating addiction and mental health challenges. The Dual Diagnosis/Substance Abuse Programs employ Evidenced Based Practices (EBPs), as defined by SAMHSA. Our clinical staff, all of whom are dually licensed in substance abuse and mental health (or working towards both distinctions), employs Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and the specialized service (for appropriate clients), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
Our programs consist of a wide range of relapse prevention groups, education groups, and social support groups delivered in a structured manner over a period of 8 to 12 weeks. Treatment is designed to be a directive and non-confrontational approach that focuses on current issues and behavior change. With a compassionate, dedicated, and caring staff, clients find that despite initial feelings of hopelessness and helplessness, they are empowered in creating a life worth living one meaningful day at a time.
WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY
“I’ve been to other treatment facilities in NJ and have been in and out of hospitals. This was the first time I actually felt heard and respected.”
“It was a comfortable atmosphere, the docs were good and the food was pretty great too. They order from a local pizza place.”
“The people there were cool. You have to turn in your phone during group but I got used to it. I was suicidal before but now I’m not. I’d go back if I had to.”
“Finally, I have therapists that actually listen to me. I would recommend GenPsych to anyone who has tried other facilities and haven’t gotten results.”
“There were ups and downs and sometimes I wasn’t the easiest person to deal with, but they were patient with me and explained the process all the way through. The groups were awesome too!”
