Bridgewater, N.J. (July 15, 2013) –Believe it or not, it is common for people to seek comfort in food whenever they are feeling depressed or experiencing anxiety. However, this act can turn into an obsessive compulsive disorder. Bulimia is the act of binge eating followed by attempting to quickly get rid of the calories in your body. The expulsion of calories can occur in more ways than just vomiting. Some include strenuous exercising, taking a laxative, or going to a sauna to sweat off the water weight.
The most common effect of bulimia is dehydration. If dehydration occurs, this can cause the body’s main organs such as the kidneys and liver to shut down; which can eventually lead to death. Other effects of bulimia include, abdominal pain, chronic sore throat, swollen cheeks, ruptured stomach, weakness, tooth decay, and constipation.
Ask yourself the following questions, if you answer “yes” to more than one that please seek help immediately:
Do you constantly obsess over your body and weight?
Are you afraid of gaining weight after each meal?
Do you ever to the point where you are painfully full?
Do you regret every meal that you eat?
Do you vomit or take laxatives to control your weight?
