During the Holidays Drunk Driving Incidents and Deaths Rise

During the Holidays Drunk Driving Incidents and Deaths Rise: According to U.S. Government experts, alcohol related accidents claim more lives during the holiday season than any other time of the year. The U.S. National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism reports that there is a 12 percent increase for the month of December for alcohol related deaths in cars. In order to help stop these issues follow these tips:

  1. Alcohol acts quickly. Alcohol affects people’s coordination and driving skills before any physical signs appear. People can become aggressive on the road and not even realize it.

  2. Alcohols effects last. Hours after consumption alcohol will affect the body. During the night alcohol can act as a sedative due to us being naturally tired. Driving while being impaired can last well into the morning hours.

  3. Coffee doesn’t help. As many people believe that coffee can help you become more sober, it does not. Only time and proper hydration will make the effects of alcohol go away.

To best protect yourself, do not drink when driving or make sure you have a designated driver that has not drank any alcohol.
