GenPsych Flemington Discusses DBT with Local NAMI Affiliation
On Monday November 19, 2018 Rebecca Herzog and Rose Walker from our Flemington location had the opportunity to speak on Hunterdon County Chamber‘s radio podcast Mental Health Matters. This podcast is hosted by Larry Cartwright and Tracy Ecclesine Ivie. Rose and Rebecca talked about what GenPsych is, how we got started, their roles within the organization, and the services we offer.
They talked about the intake process and how our Flemington location is strictly a mental health facility for adults 18 and over – no primary substance abuse services like our other four locations. We also don’t accept Medicare or Medicaid in Flemington. However, the unique and beneficial aspect about GenPsych Flemington is that it is a small site and the therapists can gear groups better to individual client needs and clients can truly have their voices heard.
One major highlight about their radio appearance is their discussion on Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). DBT is a skill-based, evidence-based treatment that emphasizes balance between acceptance and change. It focuses on five modules: mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, walking the middle path, and distress tolerance.
