HEAL Eating Disorder Program: A Day in the Life

A Day in the Life at GenPsych’s Eating Disorder Program

Appointments: (855) 436-7792 | Request Form

For clients enrolled in GenPsych’s Healthy Eating And Living (HEAL) Program, an average day might be different than what s/he is used to. Clients at HEAL may be stepping down from an inpatient treatment program, stepping up from outpatient therapy, or experiencing an eating disorder program for the first time.

So, what does an average day look like?

Group Meals

Clients begin every day with a group meal or snack. Group meals give clients the opportunity to utilize the skills that they learn throughout the rest of treatment, and begin to normalize eating behaviors.

For individuals in our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) program, most days start with breakfast. (Thursdays start with lunch.) During the rest of the day, clients will also have a snack and lunch together.

During Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), clients receive a snack and one group meal (breakfast or dinner).

Group Therapy

After their initial snack or meal, clients will begin participating in a variety of skills-based, educational, and process groups.

Clients engage in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) for which they will receive homework to help them learn and practice skills.

Groups also focus on nutrition, body image and self-esteem, relationships, and more.

Creative therapies during treatment include journaling and creative writing, art therapy, and music therapy. Clients also participate in therapeutic yoga.

Groups vary depending upon the client’s level of care and whether they are attending day or evening IOP.

Multi-Family Group

Our Multi-Family Group is open to all clients in program, and takes place every Thursday at 6 p.m.

During Multi-Family Group, the client’s loved ones will get the opportunity to work with the client to improve communication through DBT-based interpersonal effectiveness skills. Through education and understanding, family members will better be able to support the client when s/he is at home and outside of treatment.

*Teen clients will receive on-site homebound instruction during the day. For more information, click here.
