Heroin Detox, Treatment, and Abuse

Heroin Detox, Treatment, and Abuse in NJ

Heroin abuse in New Jersey is incredibly widespread. According to a 2015 analysis by NJ Advance Media Group, the annual heroin death toll in NJ has consistently been more than three times the national average (a statistic that is also increasing). Heroin is a highly addictive, synthetic drug that can be injected, snorted, or smoked. Abusers of heroin may experience adverse health effects from overdosing or injecting the drug in an unsanitary manner. Because the drug is habit-forming, appropriate heroin detox and treatment is necessary in order to ease withdrawal. Heroin detox is often the first step in breaking the cycle of abuse followed by continued medicinal and psychological treatment.

Detox Treatment in NJ Following Heroin Abuse

Detoxification, or detox, is the process by which an individual removes a harmful substance from their body. Detox treatment for heroin is most successful when facilitated by medical professionals. As a habit-forming drug, the withdrawal symptoms of heroin can often be difficult to sustain independently. However, prescribed medications, such as clonidine and buprenorphine, can help to ease these symptoms and assist in the detoxification process. In NJ, detox treatment programs are essential in addressing the heroin epidemic and preventing further abuse. Facilities, such as GenPsych, PC, now offer Ambulatory Detox programs that provide transportation and assisted care for those seeking detox treatment in NJ following heroin abuse. Treatment in NJ for Heroin Abuse following Detox

While detox treatment is essential in beginning the road to recovery, additional treatment is often required to prevent relapse. Following detox, treatment for heroin abuse often consists of a combination of medicinal and behavioral care. This integration of psychological support and medication is proven to be the most effective way of preventing relapse and maintaining a clean, healthy life long-term. Treatment for heroin abuse following detox can be provided through substance abuse programs, such as those offered by GenPsych. Such programs offer the necessary support for recovering abusers and empower them to break the cycle of addiction.
