Percocet Abuse, Detox and Treatment

Percocet Abuse, Detox, and Treatment in NJ

Percocet is a prescription pain reliever that is comprised of Oxycontin and acetaminophen. Percocet is most often used to treat short-term pain and is not intended to be taken over long periods of time. Individuals may abuse Percocet and other prescription medication because they believe them to be less dangerous than street drugs that produce a similar high. However, when taken improperly–without medical supervision, or at higher doses over longer periods of time–these drugs can be habit forming and cause great damage to the body. Oxycontin is an opiate with high rates of dependency, while acetaminophen (the most active chemical in aspirins such as Tylenol) can cause liver failure over time. More than 12 thousand deaths occur each year due to oxycodone-related drug abuse. An individual struggling with Percocet abuse should seek medical attention in order to begin detox and treatment options as soon as possible.

Detox Treatment in NJ Following Percocet Abuse

The first step in addressing Percocet abuse is pursuing detox treatment. It is important for an individual seeking recovery from Percocet addiction to remove the drug from their body entirely through termination of use. This can be done on one’s own or with medical assistance. However, because Percocet has such high rates of dependency and withdrawal, detox treatment is most successful when completed under medical supervision. Withdrawal symptoms can be physical or psychological and may discourage an individual’s recovery process. When detox is completed in a professional facility, however, medication may be prescribed to assist with these symptoms and doctors will be available to offer support and care. Various detox treatment options are available to individuals in NJ, such as GenPsych’s Ambulatory Detox program. This program provides an individual with transportation to and from the GenPsych facility if they are interested in pursuing detox treatment. Treatment in NJ for Percocet Abuse following Detox

Recovery from Percocet abuse is not often accomplished through detox alone. It is recommended that an extended treatment plan follow detox in order to produce the best results and prevent relapse. Making a full recovery from addiction requires both physical and mental care. Treatment may consist of a combination of medicinal care and professional support through individual meetings with a counselor or group therapy sessions. Following detox, an individual may enter a substance abuse program where they can better understand the root of their addiction and build the skills necessary to lead a clean and healthy life moving forward.
