GenPsych Wayne Starts Offering Teen Mental Health Program

The GenPsych Wayne site now offers GenPsych Adolescent Program (GAP), which is a multidisciplinary team-based approach to get youth back to school with confidence. The GAP program currently runs virtually via telehealth until further notice.

What is GAP?

GAP is a comprehensive after-school program committed to supporting teens with comprehensive mental health and behavioral care.

This intensive 6- to 8-week program provides teens facing anxiety, depression, defiance, anger, self-harm, mood disorders, and substance abuse issues with tangible skills to improve their ability to function academically, socially and within their own family dynamics.

GAP is designed to arm teens with appropriate coping skills to manage their mental health symptoms, help prevent any relapses in progress and enter a brand new school year with confidence.

GenPsych works with teens, parents, and the GenPsych team of licensed experts to ensure that every teen succeeds. GenPsych also collaborates with schools and provide onsite instruction through the GenPsych Partial Care Day Program.

How Does It Work?

GenPsych follows a uniquely focused two-track approach to reach teens: Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and general mental health. Each teen receives individual and group treatment as well as time with a medical provider.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a structured therapeutic treatment that emphasizes balance between acceptance and change. The core skills of DBT are mindfulness-based, teaching clients how to increase awareness by noticing thoughts, feelings, and body sensations, and then strengthening attention back to the present moment.

GAP also recognizes that teens learn and grow through engagement and fun so the program offers art, music therapy and other creative skills-based interactions.

The program provides teens with the support and skills to build a life worth living as they learn how to tolerate distress, bear pain skillfully, regulate their emotions, and improve their relationships.
