August is Depression Awareness Month

“It’s hard to answer what’s wrong, when you feel nothing is right”

Bridgewater, N.J. (August 5, 2013) – The World Health Organization estimates that 121 million people worldwide suffer from depression.

It is extremely common for people to have days where they are feeling down and out, but those moments are short-lived. The feeling of depression is typically long-term and causes a person to become withdrawn. Depression not only affects the person suffering from it, but their family and others around them as well.

The three main categories of depression are, Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), Dysthymic Disorder, and Minor Depression. There are other non-classified areas of depression that include, Psychotic Depression, Postpartum Depression, and Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).

Approximately 80% of those who suffer from depression are not receiving treatment. GenPsych, PC, provider of top quality outpatient psychiatric and substance abuse services, stresses the importance of a healthy lifestyle. GenPsych offers a Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Program which isa structured therapeutic treatment that emphasizes balance between acceptance and change.
