It was an honor to represent GenPsych at The Center for Great Expectations‘ 2018 Trauma at the Core Conference on Friday, December 7 2018. The conference entitled Trauma at the Core: Treating Adults and Adolescents with Substance Use Disorder took place at at Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC) in Branchburg, NJ. According to their website, The Center for Great Expectations provides assistance for adults and their children needing long-term treatment for substance use and mental health disorders. They also assist pregnant and parenting adolescents with co-occurring mental health disorders and their children.
The CDC reported over 70,000 US deaths due to overdose in 2017. The conference brought together 150 professionals in the substance use disorder field for this professional development opportunity. Included among those professionals, GenPsych was represented from two of our sites: Bridgewater and Livingston.
Among speakers at the conference were Keynote Speaker, Dr. Lisa Najavits, Author of Seeking Safety and Dr. John Briere, Professor of Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences at Keck School of Medicine, USC and Director of the USC Adolescent Trauma Training Center, and Dr. Denise Hien of the Rutgers School of Alcohol Studies.
